Making accessibility automatic
Autoable exists because document accessibility shouldn’t be hard. Too many organizations want to be accessible but lack the tools, time, or expertise to remediate their documents manually.
Our mission
Over 1.3 billion people worldwide live with some form of disability. When a PowerPoint presentation lacks alt text, a screen reader user gets nothing. When a PDF has no reading order, the content is gibberish to assistive technology.
Most organizations know they need to fix this. But manual remediation is tedious, expensive, and error-prone. A single 50-slide deck can take hours to remediate by hand.
Autoable automates the heavy lifting. We use a rule engine that understands WCAG 2.1 AA requirements at a structural level, combined with AI for tasks like generating meaningful alt text. The result: what used to take hours now takes seconds.
Our goal is simple — make every document accessible to every person, without requiring accessibility expertise from the author.
How Autoable works
Rule Engine
A modular rule engine checks your documents against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. Each rule knows how to detect a specific issue and how to fix it. New rules can be added for WCAG 2.2 and beyond.
AI-Powered Alt Text
For images without alternative text, we use AI vision models to generate context-aware descriptions. You can review and edit every suggestion before applying.
Non-Destructive Fixes
Fixes are applied to the document structure without altering your content or design. Fonts, layouts, animations, and branding remain untouched.
Privacy First
Your files are processed in memory and deleted immediately. We never store, log, or share your documents. All transfers are encrypted with TLS.
Standards we support
WCAG 2.1 Level AA
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines from the W3C. Level AA is the legal standard referenced by ADA, Section 508, EN 301 549, and most accessibility legislation worldwide.
Section 508
U.S. federal accessibility standard requiring electronic documents to be accessible to people with disabilities. Mandatory for all federal agencies and their contractors.
ADA Title III
The Americans with Disabilities Act requires businesses open to the public to provide accessible communications, including digital documents.
ADA Title II (April 2026)
The DOJ’s updated ADA Title II rule requires all state and local government entities — including public universities — to make their digital content accessible by April 24, 2026. Autoable helps institutions meet this deadline for PowerPoint and PDF documents.
WCAG 2.2 (coming soon)
The latest WCAG standard with additional criteria for mobile and cognitive accessibility. Our modular rule engine is designed to support new criteria as they are published.

File handling: Uploaded files are processed in volatile memory (RAM) and deleted immediately after processing. Files are never written to persistent storage, never logged, and never shared with third parties. Images and text excerpts may be sent to an AI service (Google Gemini) for alt text generation and language detection; this data is not stored by the AI service.
Account data: If you create an account, we store your email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
Payment data: All payment processing is handled by Stripe. We never see, store, or have access to your credit card numbers. Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified.
Analytics: We collect anonymous usage statistics (page views, feature usage) to improve the product. We do not track individual users across sites or sell data.
Data retention: Audit logs contain only metadata (filename, timestamp, result summary). File contents are never retained. Account data is deleted upon request.
